Hold Senate Accountable for Keeping Kids in Poverty

Even though Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act (H.R. 7024) had strong bipartisan support and passed overwhelmingly in the House, it was voted down 48-44 in the Senate on August 1. Had it passed, this legislation would have lifted 400,000 children out of poverty. But our work isn’t done.

What’s ahead for children and families in need?

In 2025, Congress will need to revisit the child tax credit because some provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act are expiring. Now is our chance to make sure that our senators know we are paying attention to what they do to make life better for families.

Those who opposed the bill need to feel some heat and those who voted for it need to feel some appreciation.

Congressional staff tell us personalized letters are most impactful. Edit your message to explain why the child tax credit matters to you and community. Email Lobby@fcnl.org for tips or to learn how you can engage in higher-level advocacy.

Once submitted, the title and name of the legislator will be automatically filled in.

Act now!
