Tell Congress: Invest in Humane Migration Solutions
As relentless wars, atrocities, environmental disasters, and human rights abuses force families and individuals to flee their homes, we must respond.
But the policies put forth by U.S. policymakers weaken protections for people escaping violence and persecution. Asylum seekers and migrants able to petition for safety in the U.S. aren’t guaranteed any basic support for their transition to the United States.
One of our greatest moral callings as a nation is to protect the vulnerable. This must include the humane treatment and reception of newcomers. Instead, the United States has spent billions on harmful and ineffective punitive measures to deter at-risk individuals from migrating.
Every day, border and destination communities are offering aid to those fleeing violence and persecution because the U.S. government hasn’t created a welcome system. It’s time to shift our approach.
We will not turn our backs on those fleeing persecution and violence. Urge Congress to invest in humane, community-based migration management programs.
