The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare something we’ve long known: Our spending
priorities as a nation must change. While millions struggle with an
unprecedented public health crisis and devastating economic downturn, our
military continues to receive exorbitant amounts of money.
But we have an opportunity to change that. During the week of July 20, as Congress considers the Pentagon’s budget for the coming year, we expect votes in both chambers on amendments to cut the obscene $740 billion defense budget bill by 10 percent. By shifting funds to more urgent priorities, these amendments would help shape a federal budget that better reflects our values and our faith.
Act now: Urge your members of Congress to support the Sanders-Markey-Warren and Pocan-Lee amendments to redirect 10 percent
of the military budget into urgent human needs!
